Household Support Fund

We have been supporting Birmingham households in accessing a discretionary hardship grant of £200 since the winter of 2023. This grant was established by the Department for Work and Pensions and Birmingham City Council.

To date, £275,000 has been distributed, making a difference to over 1,375 families, 75% of whom have children. The majority of these households were unaware of this vital grant before our intervention, and its impact cannot be overstated. Among the families we have supported:

  • Almost 50% include individuals with disabilities.
  • 39% of applicants reported having energy-related debt.
  • We have supported people of all faiths and none.
  • The ethnic backgrounds of those supported have been diverse.
  • The majority of applicants were female, including a significant proportion of single mothers.

“I received it. You have helped me a lot.” – A single mother of two who was in arrears with her utility bills.
